Last night (Wednesday April 8th, 2009) was the first night that Terri and I decided to split up and sleep in different areas. We have seen little stuff, but I still thought most everything was in these citizen’s heads. Well, until I was alone last night!

Now I’ve not spoken to Terri yet; we are supposed to get together around 9:00 a.m. We moved about a mile apart from each other to see if something would come up, and it did. I had to call Matt ASAP to get this off my chest. I hope she is ok.

We split up about 5:30 p.m.; right after we had our famous crappy dinner!  Nothing really tastes good that doesn’t have meat with it. Beans and soup have been our diet, with some bread. So anyway, we decided that I would go closer to the river; it’s where the U.S. soldiers stayed during and after their fight with the Indians. In talking to Brett Yoder, his family has been in Dutch for over 100 years, he is sort of the historical person that knows a lot about the actual movements of the U.S. soldiers. I wanted to know what areas they hit. The legend says that sickness hit the soldiers after the battle and 80% of them died. Many of them died in the area that I was going to set up camp.  Not sure what Terri’s plans were to find camp, she wanted to use the map and find more of an Indian influence.

So I got my tent up, finally, the ground was very hard and it was tough getting the stakes in the ground; when I pulled them out they were actually bent a little. I thought that was a little strange, but didn’t let it get to me. The sun went down and I was reading a little, having my ears pealed for anything I could hear. Bears are in the area, so I made sure I had no food out—not that I had anything good to eat. I fell asleep thinking that this was a waste of time. It was about midnight when I heard the first noise. The moon was very bright, so at least I had some light. I shined my flashlight around, but it went off after about thirty seconds. So I was there all alone, no light and thinking that someone or something was out there. About fifteen minutes past and I didn’t hear anything else.

What I saw next is unbelievable. In fact, I would understand if you didn’t believe it…

I heard a louder sound again and looked outside the tent. I hit my flashlight a couple of times and it finally came on. On the other side of the river bank I saw—and I swear to God I didn’t drink or take any drugs at all—three Indians on horses. They looked like they were not there, if you can understand that. I froze…literally. I couldn’t take my eyes off of them. All they did was look at me with razor eyes. None of them looked like the chief, or at least I didn’t think so. The one in the middle pointed, not at me, but up above me. I looked up and pulled the light of my flashlight with me. I saw in the tree above me a U.S. soldier hanging from the tree by his neck with a noose. The man was just hanging there in mid air, swinging slowly back and forth. At that time I focused my eyes back on the Indians. As I did I saw one of them draw his bow and shoot an arrow in my direction. Then I did wet myself, because I could see the arrow coming at me, in sort of a slow motion and I could swear it hit my chest! I was breathing so hard I thought my heart would explode! The Indians were gone and so was the hanging man. I was scared to death!

I didn’t sleep the rest of the night and if I heard a noise, I didn’t look. I was just hoping that daylight would come. When the sun rose this morning, I packed up the tent—which is when I noticed the bending of the stakes—and got to an area where I had a little cell phone reception to relay this to Matt. I meet Terri in about two hours. I looked up on the ridge again and nothing was there. I looked above me and nothing was there. Like I said, believe it or not, and if you don’t, come with me the next time. Can’t wait to get into town and talk with Brett again. He has to know something, since he told me to come here.

I’m out for now!

You guys wanted to play with fire and you slightly got burned. You lucky that's all that happened. Get out of there before something worse happens. Keep together and leave ASAP. You saw enough. Unless you're willing to risk a little more. Take care. Wishing you both return safely.
